Exercise Your Right to Better Health

Virtually everybody benefits from exercise — including people with hepatitis C. Exercise won't rid your body of the virus, but it can go a long way toward helping you stay healthy.

For example, regular exercise can:

  • Boost your immune system, which may help to prevent the development of cirrhosis or slow its progression
  • Relieve feelings of fatigue and depression
  • Increase memory and concentration
  • Help with body aches and muscle cramps
  • Reduce stress and help you to relax
  • Improve the action of your heart and general circulation. This may:
    • Be especially important if you have circulation problems along with hepatitis C
    • Reduce your chances of developing cardiovascular problems

You don't need a gym or a personal trainer to start exercising. You can walk your dog or with a friend, try water exercise. Even rent yoga or Tai Chi videos. Just remember to start slow. And "easy does it." And make adjustments for how you are feeling each day.

Of course, before you start any new physical activity, you should talk to your doctor first.
