Healthy Habits to Keep Your Energy Up

Nutrition and exercise both play a role in your energy level. Eating right builds your reserves, and exercise actually helps your body use energy more efficiently.

The next step is conserving that energy, so you don't feel worn out before the day is done.

  • Make sure you're getting enough sleep.
    Try going to bed at the same time every night. A regular sleep routine can help you get the rest you need. Talk to your doctor if you have a problem falling asleep or staying asleep
  • Drink plenty of water.
    Drinking water helps you stay hydrated, and hydration — or lack of it — can affect your fatigue level
  • Relax.
    Don't let stress get the best of you. Try massage therapy or visual imagery, or anything you can do to help you relax
  • Pace yourself at work.
    If you have a grueling meeting in the morning, then try to take a break afterward
  • Take a nap.
    Even just a 10-minute break can help restore your energy levels
  • Avoid caffeine — especially after 2 PM.
    Caffeinated beverages can give you a short energy burst, but may leave you feeling more tired in the long run. And they can make it harder to fall asleep at night
  • Try eating smaller, more frequent meals.
    This helps keep your energy levels constant throughout the day and helps avoid fluctuations in blood sugar levels
