PEGASYS Is Clinically Proven to Fight
Hepatitis C
Two large clinical trials have been conducted to show the effectiveness of PEGASYS and COPEGUS® (Ribavirin, USP) combination therapy in patients with hepatitis C.
Overall, these studies found that 56% of the patients in one trial and 63% of the patients in another — who received PEGASYS 180 mcg once weekly with ribavirin 1000 mg or 1200 mg daily (depending on body weight) — achieved a sustained virologic response after 48 weeks of treatment.
By strain or genotype, the studies found the following:
- 46% of the genotype 1 hepatitis C patients in one trial, and 52% in another, who received PEGASYS once weekly with COPEGUS daily, achieved a sustained virologic response after 48 weeks of treatment
- 82% of the genotype 2 or 3 hepatitis C patients who received PEGASYS once weekly with COPEGUS achieved a sustained virologic response after 24 weeks of treatment
The length of treatment and how well it works depends on many different factors for each individual. One of the main ways of determining how your hepatitis C should be treated is by the strain or genotype of the virus you have. The most common in the United States is genotype 1.
